Concerns have been raised with the Department of Health and Human Services’ (DHHS) testing protocols in checking the identification of those being tested and those leaving Melbourne checkpoints.

Local businessman, Simon Ellis, of the Old Station Café, says he has had to turn away one customer and had others from lockdown areas wish to purchase or dine at his café.

He said there needs to be tighter checks to ensure people living in lockdown zones are kept out of regional areas and warned other local business owners to be wary of those dodging checkpoints.

“I’ve heard they are not even checking where the people are from when they’re testing them,” Simon said.

“I’ve had a truck driver want to dine at the café, but as far as I’m aware they must either get takeaway or delivery. I asked him to leave and if he didn’t I was going to call the police.

“I’ve had others from lockdown areas come and ask for takeaway coffees. They are just putting us all at risk in an area that is doing so well avoiding the virus.”
