Construction of a brand-new Kmart store will begin in Bairnsdale soon, with Kmart finally answering the community’s call to bring a big-format store back to town.
Property owner, Newmark Capital, will develop the new building with construction expected to begin within weeks. 
The Bairnsdale Motor Inn, on the Princes Highway, is presently being demolished to make way for the new Kmart.
Kmart Group general manager of property, Ben Smith, said that he and the wider Kmart team were excited to begin construction, with demolition scheduled to start later this month. 
“The project will provide an incredible economic boost to the City of Bairnsdale, creating new jobs in the construction phase, but also with the restoration of 120 team members at our physical Kmart store. We can’t wait to bring it to life,” Mr Smith said.
