Battle for top four heating up

Battle for top four heating up

Spots are up for grabs in the East Gippsland Football Netball Club top four after a couple of the leading contenders suffered disappointments during round eight.
Apart from Wy Yung which is now two games clear on top of the ladder, the other spots are on offer in the coming weeks, with the remaining seven teams all realistic chances of making the four or at least playing a big part in shaping it.
Currently in second place, Lindenow has lost three of its past four matches and faces another danger game against Lakes Entrance this Saturday, the Seagulls coming off back-to-back wins. Third placed Lucknow could only manage a draw against bottom of the ladder Orbost Snowy Rovers, while fourth placed Stratford has improved considerably in recent weeks, smashing the Cats last weekend. Fifth placed Paynesville looked a likely finalist three weeks ago before dropping games to Boisdale Briagolong, Stratford and most recently, Wy Yung.
Lakes Entrance, Boisdale Briagolong and Snowy Rovers have all shown significant improvement in recent weeks.
Orbost Snowy Rovers and Lucknow played a dramatic draw at Lucknow.

IMAGE: Alex McLaren was at his brilliant best, however it wasn’t enough for Paynesville to get over the line against ladder leader, Wy Yung, the Gulls losing by 101 points.
