A new community group kicked off its first event with a successful five-kilometre walk along the Mitchell River Trail last week.
The club, Gippy Girls, founded by local resident Lily Martyn, aims to connect individuals in East Gippsland through shared outdoor experiences.
The inaugural walk saw a diverse group of participants, including parents with young children and even a four-legged friend, come together to enjoy the beautiful East Gippsland scenery.
“It was heartwarming to see such a varied group of people connecting and supporting each other,” Lily Martyn, founder of Gippy Gals Adventure Club, said.
“This is exactly the kind of inclusive community we’re aiming to build.”
Gippy Gals Adventure Club was created to foster a supportive environment that celebrates nature, promotes wellbeing and embraces diversity. The club welcomes individuals of all genders, ages and abilities who are interested in exploring the outdoors and building friendships.
“Our first walk was a great success,” Martyn said.
“We had perfect weather, formed new friendships, and enjoyed some great conversations. It really set the tone for what we hope to achieve with Gippy Gals.”
Looking ahead, Gippy Gals Adventure Club has ambitious plans to grow its membership base and unite people across the vast East Gippsland region.
“Our vision is to create a network of connected communities throughout East Gippsland,” Martyn said.
“We want to bring together people from Bairnsdale to Mallacoota, from Omeo to Paynesville, fostering connections that span our diverse landscapes.”
The club aims to organise events in various locations across the region, encouraging members to explore new areas and meet fellow enthusiasts from different towns.
By doing so, Gippy Gals hopes to not only promote physical wellbeing but also strengthen the social fabric of East Gippsland as a whole.
“We’re not just about walks and hikes,” Martyn said.
“We’re about building a supportive community that transcends geographical boundaries within our region.”
The club has already planned its next event, a 5km return walk along the Metung Foreshore on Wednesday, October 16, at 10am.
This walk will include a coffee break at Aroma Cafe, embodying the club’s focus
on both physical activity and social connection.
Gippy Gals Adventure Club organises regular walks and hikes in the East Gippsland area, catering to various fitness levels and interests.
The club also maintains a private Facebook group for members to share experiences, plan events, and support each other.
