Wins by current Bairnsdale leading trainer Jackson Pallot and one of the training legends of the region, Danny Cunningham, highlighted the Bairnsdale Racing Club’s annual Melbourne Cup Day racing fixture on Tuesday.
Pallot who will be soon retiring from training, won with maiden, Zemgrinda in a 1200 metre division, much too the delight of plenty of local owners.
Pallot purchased the four-year-old gelding from Flemington trainer Matthew Ellerton earlier in the year, and although the son of Impending has taken six runs to hit his peak, he looks more than capable of picking up another win in the near future.
Zemgrinda bought up a double for Pakenham-based apprentice, Emily Pozman, who had earlier been victorious on The Cruiser for popular Gippsland horseman, Frankie Stockdale.
The Cruiser got the bob of the head in, much to the disappointment of Ensay trainer Rob Gillahan, whose gallopers Doctor Coto and Wunambal.
Danny Cunningham trained plenty of winners when based at the magnificent Dennison Park Stud and it was great to see him and daughter, Sarah, in the winners’ stall with seven-year-old gelding, Do This All Day.
The Cunningham’s train a small team at Ballarat where Sarah works at Federation University.
It was Do This All Day’s first win for the stable, having been trained earlier in his career by Danny’s daughter, Clare, who won a race at Wyong with the galloper.
Do This All Day was ridden confidently by Trafalgar hoop, Jason Maskiell.
Other jockeys to ride winners were Carleen Hefel, Remi Tremsal and Dakota Keane, while in the training ranks it was Reece Goodwin, Dean Binaisse and Alexander Rae.
Bairnsdale Racing Club’s
next meeting is on Tuesday,
November 19.
