EQUASTRIAN: Local riders Chris Connley, Trudy Goldring, Tyla Kleinitz, Emily Pendergast, Nicole Gibbs and Sarah Faithful recently competed in the Battle of the Bidgee near Gundagai. On the banks of the Murrumbidgee River, the event sees Australia’s best horsemen and women compete in a three-day Stockman’s Challenge. The first two days of the challenge consisted of preliminary including stock handling, packhorse, whip cracking, dry work pattern, bareback obstacle, horseshoeing and cross country. On day three, the top 10 open competitors competed in a wild horse catch and poley buck jump, while the top five female participants took part in a wild horse catch and a working cow horse event, with the top five juniors battling it out in a time trial and steer catch. PICKLEBALL: It’s Australia’s fastest growing sport and you could see why if you were at the Bairnsdale Tennis Club last Saturday morning. A large crew from the Westside Pickleball Club joined the locals for a game, with lots of fun and laughter had by all. Bairnsdale Pickleball is on at the tennis club every Thursday from 10-12 and 5-7 as well as Saturdays from 10-12. Everyone is welcome and equipment is provided. (PS)
BASKETBALL: Charlie Gardam from the Purple team was this week’s Bairnsdale Amateur Basketball Association under eight team player of the week. Each week a player is chosen by their coach as the best team player. (PS)
BOWLS: A memorial plaque was unveiled in the Paynesville Bowls Club’s rose garden for Lori Smith in honour of her outstanding contribution to the club over 16 years. Lori’s husband Gerv unveiled the plaque and her four children Greg, Lindy, Debbie and Brett together planted a rose in their mother’s memory. (PS)
CRICKET: Chris Aurisch is currently playing in his 200th “A” grade game for Stratford Cricket Club and was among the runs making 89 last Saturday. Aurisch has played in four premierships and has a highest score of 158, which was in the 2013 grand finale. (PS)
