Local retailer Anthony Scott, affectionately known as the ‘Mayor of the Mall’, is asking the new batch of local East Gippsland Shire Councillors if they can engender civic pride in the town.
Mr Scott submitted pictures of the terrible state of the Nicholson Street Mall at the moment and also a shopping trolley filled with a couple of bicycles and an old blanket that has been parked on the corner of the Nicholson and Pyke streets for the last week (pictured).
“Who’s responsibility is this mess?” Mr Scott asked.
He cannot understand why local council cannot put on their schedule to wash the mall when the bird faeces gets too thick.
“It’s nearly as bad as some of the jetties around the Lakes where the birds rule the roost. In its current state no one will sit in the mall because of the poo and dirty condition of the area,” Mr Scott said.
“I am very keen to meet our new Mayor when they do their street walk to meet the retailers of our business community.”
