The Gippsland Region Bowls weekend pennant season will start this Saturday with Lakes Entrance active in the top three divisions.
Lakes will field two teams in divisions, one, two and three, while not being represented in division four.
Weekend pennant will start next Tuesday, with Lakes fielding five teams in the competition’s three divisions.
This season Lakes will be bolstered by the return of Joanne Martin, who returns to the club after a season at Paynesville where the club was runner-up to Bairnsdale in the revamped weekend superleague competition.
Martin’s return helps to offset the defection of Brad Lancaster (Orbost) and Brendan Addison (West Sale), both huge losses as the club tries to get back into the premiership window it has consistently had open over the past decade.
Only one of the club’s two division one sides made the finals in the new superleague competition last season and they were bundled out in the elimination final.
Lakes will be looking for some of its division two premiership players to push up and fill the voids.
