Roy Swan was sitting in the lounge room of his Wy Yung home watching television with his wife, Sylvana, last Friday evening as strong winds battered about outside.
As the winds had been raging most of the afternoon, Mr Swan admits he didn’t pay much attention to them.
“It had been windy all day really,” the Bairnsdale mechanic told the Advertiser.
Mr Swan remembers hearing what he thought was “an extra gust” some time after 6pm but the couple continued to focus on the television unperturbed.
It wasn’t until his wife ventured outside to fetch something that the couple became aware a tree had hit the house.
Miraculously, the large gum tree was leaning on a corner of the house and hadn’t caused too much damage except for smashing several roof tiles.
