Bairnsdale Police is conducting night foot patrols as part of a new community policing effort.
While night patrols are done regularly in vehicles, the idea behind the new initiative is to get boots on the ground around the neighbourhood.
Station Commander, Senior Sergeant James Wearne, says “gathering intelligence as to whose out during those night time hours and being present, where and when we can, is a visible deterrent to those committing crimes and disrupts those activities”.
