Exciting local footballer, Melbourne excitement machine, Megan Fitzsimon, is now an AFL premiership player, her Demons defeating Brisbane by four points in an epic contest at Springfield on Sunday.
The Demons, one of the powerhouses and most consistent sides in the AFLW since its inception, finally broke through for their maiden premiership, upsetting the Lions in front of 7412 spectators 2.7-19 to 2.3-15.
Fitzsimon, had five kicks and three tackles, always looked dangerous when in the ball’s vicinity.
It’s been a fairytale rise for Fitzsimon, now 20. Recruited from the Gippsland Power after beginning her football journey at the Bairnsdale Football Netball Club, she was taken at number 35 pick in the 2020 AFL national draft.
Debuting in round one of the 2021 season, Fitzsimon is now an AFL premiership player after just 26 games.
Gippsland Power was well represented on Sunday, with Morwell’s Casey Sheriff and Beaconsfield’s Tyla Hanks also part of the victorious Demons outfit.
