A roundtable discussion involving the East Gippsland Shire Council and Bairnsdale Chamber of Commerce and Industry regarding the Nicholson Street mall in Bairnsdale has been moved from the library to The Hub tonight (Monday).
Concern for the future of Nicholson Street prompted the meeting, which will include representatives of both council and the Bairnsdale Chamber of Commerce, follows a decision by the East Gippsland Shire Council to reinstate at least half a dozen carparks in the mall vicinity in a bid to regenerate activity in the precinct.
Since Woolworths abandoned the mall a couple of years ago to move to the former Kmart building, further up Nicholson Street, local businesses have reported a decline in foot traffic in the mall.
