Tambo Waste has made a significant investment to support the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme (CDS), which will benefit the business, community clubs, groups, charities and individuals.
The waste management business is at the forefront of the scheme, its newly installed sorting technology at both its Bairnsdale and Sale depots put to the test on opening day last Wednesday – the Bairnsdale facility sorted more than 20,000 containers.
The new equipment sorts each items individually into the correct bin as it passes over a conveyor belt – cans being detected and pushed into the right spot while lighter bottles are blown into a separate bin and glass bottles reaching the final bin.
“You can bring bulk amounts of cans, plastic bottles, glass bottles in here, we can sort it out very quickly with our new technology, it counts the exact number of containers as it passes through the machine, you then get a receipt, punch it into the machine and you can get your cash directly, donate it to a sporting club or charity, or even put it directly into your own bank account or set one up so the money goes into your children’s accounts,” Tambo Waste group operations manager, Brad Duncan, said.
“The machine is capable of sorting 350 containers per minute so is brilliant for bulk collections. We’ll also accept crushed cans and crushed plastics at the depots. The facility here in Bairnsdale and in Sale are manned and we can give you a hand if something goes wrong.
“It’s a huge investment and that’s because we’re committed to getting it right.”
