Kennedy Trailers is again at the forefront of dynamic design.
The custom trailer building Bairnsdale company has just built the Acciona trailer which will carry wind turbine tower blades to south Queensland’s Macintyre Windfarm, the biggest wind farm in the southern hemisphere and the first ‘giga-watt-scale’ renewable energy project in Australia.
The new generation wind tower blades used in the windfarm’s construction are 82m in length and weigh 29 tonnes fitted with a transport frame.
Kennedy Trailers is using the blade lifter to carry the blades, which is an Australian first.
“The trailer is used so the wind turbine blades can be lifted up over trees, hills, etc, when transporting the blades onsite to the construction pads, so that the 200km of internal construction roads of windfarm can be kept to a bare minimum and reduce the environmental footprint of the windfarm, speeding up the construction phase of the windfarm,” Kennedy Trailers managing director, Lynden Kennedy, said.
