More than 350 blokes (and a few women) helped raise huge funds for prostate cancer research, cramming into Cremin Hall for the ninth annual Biggest Ever Big Blokes BBQ Lunch on Friday.
The yearly fundraiser was deemed a huge success by committee chairman, Bob Yeates, who thanked the blokes, sponsors and supporters of the event for continuing to raise awareness and much needed money for the cause.
Guest speakers included world champion boxer, Danny Green, and former Australian cricketer, Brad Hodge, while Greg Davies provided the laughs as the blokes tucked into the gourmet barbecued meats.
Green spoke of his upbringing, finding his passion for combat sport, his meeting with all-time boxing great, Muhammad Ali, at the Sydney Olympics, while also speaking passionately about his Coward’s Punch campaign.
Hodge mixed serious cricketing stories, such as watching former Aussie skipper, Ricky Ponting, play pull shots to a bowling machine at 160km/h, with plenty of gags and humour about times spent rooming with 2018 Big Blokes BBQ speaker, Merv Hughes.
The 28-item charity auction raised more than $40,000, while raffles pushed the total closer to $50,000 (excluding event ticket sales).
