National Reconciliation Week, running from May 27 to June 3, marks a time for all Australians to learn about our shared cultures, histories and achievements.
For Bairnsdale West Primary School (BWPS), Reconciliation Week is one of the biggest events on the school’s calendar, and this year was no different, hosting a packed Reconciliation Day assembly in Nova Hall on Friday, May 31.
This year’s theme, “Now More than Ever” serves as a reminder to all Australians that the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will, and must, continue.
The school welcomed Aboriginal elders, parents and community leaders, as well as students and teachers from other schools around the district, such as Bairnsdale Secondary College and Orbost Community College.
