Former local, Clay Smith, has continued his remarkable start to his unbeaten professional boxing career, knocking his latest opponent over in just 33 seconds at the Melbourne Pavilion, Flemington, last week.
Smith, now 31, was a 2016 Western Bulldogs premiership player prior to his career being cut short after 55 games in 2018 due to a persistent knee injury.
He has been impressive early in his three-fight professional career, but the excitement machine went to a new level last week when he knocked over Jamie Phillips.
Phillips was knocked to the canvas, taking considerable time to regain both his his feet and composure.
Phillips had been training hard for a come-back five years in the making, his career record now one win and two losses.
Smith cheekily suggested pre-fight he would love to get in the ring with GWS captain Toby Greene one day.
“We’ve had a few run ins on the footy field, but look, he’s a ripper fella. There’s a photo where he’s got me by the jaw and he’s squeezing me. So I wouldn’t mind landing one on his chin,” Smith said.
Team Ellis are doing a great job steering Smith through the early stages of his boxing career, and you can expect to see him in the ring again very soon.
