Everyone likes a parade, and the Bairnsdale Christmas Parade down Main Street on Saturday morning was again an outstanding success for the community and all those involved in it.
Event organiser, Taylor Moorhouse, of East Gippsland Newspapers, said the annual event this year attracted 52 floats from businesses, schools and community groups.
“This year’s weather was kind to the parade walkers and those who lined the streets to watch the event, unlike last year’s high temperature day,” Taylor said.
“The theme was ‘country town Christmas’, which everyone embraced.
“There were a few country angels dressed in flannel, Christmas elves riding wombats and kangaroos and even an Aussie barbecue on one float.
“The floats are becoming more extravagant every year, which is fantastic.
“Hopefully the community enjoyed the event as the participants put a lot of passion and effort into their floats this year.”
Ms Moorhouse praised proud supporter of the parade since its inception, Cranes Asphalting.
“A big thank you to Cranes for working with us again this year, without their generosity the parade would not go ahead,” she said.
“And the biggest thank you goes to the businesses and community groups who take part as they are always a pleasure to work with. I cannot wait for next year’s parade.”

Ricki McVeigh, member of the powerful Bairnsdale Christmas Committee associated with the Bairnsdale Chamber of Commerce and Industry said “The stall holders at the Christmas Main Street Market held in conjunction with the parade were extremely pleased with the volume of foot traffic prior to and after the parade.” The Bairnsdale Secondary Choir, which sang on the day added great colour and flavour. “The parade brings Main Street alive once a year, the community love it and we the community all are indebted to Cranes who volunteer their time, service and professional guidance enabling Bairnsdale to have such a great parade day,” Ricki said.
