East Gippsland Specialist School, Bairnsdale, is taking learning to another level while also keeping students active with its interactive MultiBall screen.
Made in Germany, the MulitBall is an interactive sports wall which uses sensors and a projector screen to quickly detect ball and body movements, combining physical movement with the excitement of digital gaming.
East Gippsland Specialist School was the first school in Australia to install the MultiBall.
The idea to purchase the MultiBall screen came from the school’s head of sport and physical education, Michael Mitchell, who conducted extensive research on the technology.
After receiving a grant from the State Government, the MulitBall was bought and installed in December 2022.
Since then, Mr Mitchell has witnessed students of all ages and grades develop their cognitive skills, learn about the importance of teamwork and become more active, all while having fun.
Mr Mitchell further explained the benefits the MultiBall provides.
“It has more than 40 games and they’re not just for entertainment – they’re for education, skill development, problem solving and even fitness assessments,” he said.
“And it’s not just games, it covers subjects right across the whole curriculum.
“This makes the MultiBall incredibly versatile, it’s really designed for anyone to use.”
The MultiBall’s versatility doesn’t end with its range of games, but it also allows students of all abilities to use it, including those in wheelchairs, making it inclusive to all students.
For East Gippsland Specialist School, the proof is in the pudding, with its students becoming increasingly active, understanding the importance of sportsmanship and learning new skills.
