Paynesville Probus Club recently celebrated its 40th birthday.
For many members it was hard to imagine that the club had been operating for such a long time.
The club’s historian, Kelly Smith, entertained members with tales from the first meeting, held at Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club, with many humorous mentions of the ceremonial sherry toast which took place in the old days.
Special guests at the celebration were Uli Wagner and Luke McCaig of the Bairnsdale Rotary Sunrise Club.
The birthday cake was made by members Ken and Loraine Lloyd’s daughter, transported to Paynesville and then decorated – an absolute work of art and delicious.
President Bill Buckle congratulated three of the club’s longest-serving members: Pat Smith, member for 27 years; Janet Cook 30 years; and Wendy Hayes 29 years.
Pat and Janet both held the role of historian and committee members, and Wendy was involved in club travel, including overseas trips and club membership.
