Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club staged the time honoured Vice Commodore’s trophy last Sunday with winds limiting the field size.
Only two boats competed in the event, held in 20 knots, with gusts up to 30 knots.
Stewart Loft took the water on his new Thompson 7, up against the the Raineys on WTBHRU, their FlyFifteen.
The two craft were beautiful to watch as they seemed to play touch tag, one shooting ahead then both meeting again at the top mark.
The race stayed in Newlands Arm with a wing mark in the passage before Lake Victoria.
Scallywag, a Farr, sailed by Steven Hayes was also out on the water, Hayes tested his new boat in the wind, which added some extra excitement.
The Raineys eventually came in first, though Loft didn’t use his spinnaker, as both both boats provided plenty of entertainment for the crowd who gathered at the clubhouse.
