A full house attended the Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club (GLYC) official opening for season 2024/25 last Saturday.
Guest speaker Martin Gamble shared his sailing stories, which the sailors could relate to and enjoyed.
Christie Arras received her life member pin and Lindsey Crawford received his daughter Jacqui’s award on her behalf.
The official opening and raising of the flag was officiated
at by Gamble and club commodore Gary Maskiell, the pole looking resplendent in its new location.
After lunch, the traditional salute to the commodore took place on the water, Maskiell onboard Saracen, a fitting multihull.
The vagaries of the wind direction made the stern chaser race a bit of a spaghetti bowl, but everyone sailed the tower to finish with Tarna bringing home the Commodore’s Trophy.
