Bairnsdale Racing Club hosted a competitive eight-race program on Monday, highlighted by a double to Pakenham trainer Peter Gelagotis and stable apprentice Tianni Chapman.
The popular duo combined with Cyclone Harmony and Rubology who were both well supported and popular results for on-course punters.
Another Gippsland trained galloper to salute was Shamrock Bay for Moe husband and wife training combination Paul and Tracey Templeton.
Paul Templeton rode plenty of winners as a jockey in the region prior to retiring around a decade ago.
Shamrock Bay was the first leg of a double for Mornington jockey Celine Gaudray, who was also successful on Continental Kiss for John McCardle.
Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Danny O’Brien was successful in the opening event with Litzdeal, a promising filly that looks to have plenty of scope for improvement.
She was well handled by Liam Riordan, who does a lot of riding for the O’Brien stable.
The most impressive winner of the meeting was the Alexander Rae first starter Top Calibre, who blitzed the field with Jake Noonan in the saddle in a 1200 metre maiden. The four-year-old was formerly in the care of master trainer Chris Waller.
Harmonett gave former jockey Vinnie Hall his fourth winner from just 18 runners as a trainer when he broke through for his maiden victory at start number eight.
The horse to follow from the meeting could be last winner, Luckyheleft, who despite doing a power of work, toyed with his rivals in the 2200 metre race for Rachael Cunningham and jockey Jason Maskiell.
The next meeting at the Bairnsdale Racing Club will be the club’s biggest meeting of the year, Melbourne Cup Day, Tuesday, November 5.
The club has a number of race day package options available.
