Daniel the destroyer

by East Vic Media
2 March 2021
in Local News

Brad Daniel has destroyed Orbost as West Bairnsdale secured back-to-back Bairnsdale Cricket Association “A” grade one-day premierships at City Oval on Sunday.
Orbost was bowled out for a dreadful 54 in 22.2 overs, the batting rot starting in the opening over when Daniel had Jayden Price bowled for a duck.
Daniel was outstanding, picking up 7/30 from his eight overs, breaking the Blues’ back within the first 10 overs of the match.
He followed Price’s wicket in his second over having Luke Endley clean bowled for one, and it was evident it was Daniel’s day when Alex Hulme punched a defensive stroke back at the bowler, only for Daniel to grasp a one-handed catch almost behind him.
Jack Lind picked up the wicket of Lachie Donchi caught at point before Daniel again hit the wickets, this time taking Scott Mundy’s off stump.
Nick Hulme was trapped in front to give Daniel five wickets, before Max Welsh edged behind for his sixth.
Tim Osborn made it seven when a lofted drive found Lind at cover.
Youngsters Oscar Millward and Jet Phillips looked the most assured of the Orbost batsmen, however it was too little too late with the top order cleaned up by Daniel.
West’s run chase started positively through David Wolfe (22 off 25) and Luke Henry (20 off 30), however in the hunt for a quick victory, West loss four wickets, three to the bowling of Welsh.
Brodie Anderson and Atley Williams saw the side home in just the 11th over, to claim a second consecutive one-day flag.
Now attention turns to the two-day finals.

Daniel finished with 7/30 as Orbost was bowled out for 54. West chased down the total in the 11th over. K54-8356
