Members of Bairnsdale VIEW Club are calling on the community, to give generously this Anti-Poverty Week, October 13-19, and sponsor a child through national children’s education charity ‘The Smith Family’. The focus of this Anti-Poverty Week is to end child poverty in Australia.
This year has been difficult for all Australians due to the cost-of-living increases, but has been particularly hard for those families already doing it tough. Families are having to make impossible choices during this cost-of-living crisis; this could be prioritising rent over sending their child on a school excursion, being able to afford schoolbooks or essential digital learning tools. A laptop and reliable internet access at home are now vital for any child’s education.
VIEW (Voice, Interest, and Education of Women) is the largest community sponsor of students on the Smith Family’s ‘Learning for Life’ program.
Bairnsdale VIEW Club currently supports 19 students through the education support program, which provides families with long term educational, financial, and personal assistance, so that children have all the essentials needed to fully participate in their learning. Members also volunteer as Learning Club tutors in local schools.
No child should have to miss out on the essentials for their education and this is why VIEW is so passionate about supporting the work of The Smith Family, to support students for the duration of their education.
VIEW Clubs raised more than $1.5 million nationally last year to support The Smith Family’s important work, and they currently sponsor more than 1760 students on the Learning for Life scholarship program. All donations to The Smith Family are tax deductible, and further information can be found on their website.
Bairnsdale VIEW Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 10.30am at Club Eastwood. If you are interested in finding out more information regarding the club and its activities, you would be most welcome to attend one of the meetings.
