A Melbourne man in his mid 30s was left shaken after the semi-trailer he was driving rolled at the railway crossing as he was driving into Bairnsdale on Tuesday morning.
The freight truck was carrying pre-fabricated concrete panels for the new Kmart site and was only minutes from the site, after the long journey from Melbourne, when it tipped over.
Police on the scene believe the heavy load and a driver “unfamiliar with the road” contributed to the accident.
Fortunately, the driver escaped unscathed and it was just luck that vehicles travelling west along the Princes Highway were not in the path of the truck as it veered across to the opposite side of the road before tipping over just after 8.30.
Local CFA units were quickly on the scene to ensure there were no issues with diesel leakage.
