Omeo Health's new CEO

PODCAST - Omeo District Health’s new chief executive officer, Associate Professor Arish Naresh, says community is the key to good health. A fourth generation Fijian Indian, Dr Naresh brings a wealth of experience to his new role in Omeo, with an extensive background in health and leadership. He sat down for this wide ranging interview with the Bairnsdale Advertiser at the beginning of June (2021).

Ocean Fishing

Lakes Entrance based fisherman, Chris Newman, comes from a family with a long history in fishing.  Mr Newman is a fourth generation ocean fisherman and his fishing boats ply the high seas each week to bring in supplies for both local consumption and city markets.

Bairnsdale Gentlemen's Choir

The Bairnsdale Gentlemen’s Choir meets regularly to sing in a shared passion for music. The choir consists of a diverse group of locals, where age is irrelevant. Musical director, Evan Bryant, says the choir offers men an opportunity to spend time together and provides a creative outlet.

Councillor Elect: Mark Reeves

Mark Reeves is the ninth elected councillor to the East Gippsland Shire Council. Cr Reeves is a longtime councillor and past mayor. In this forthcoming term, Cr Reeves said it was important that the Shire is prepared for the likelihood of future fires, floods and pandemics in order to support the community.

Councillor Elect: John White

Cr John White, who was the immediate past Mayor in the previous East Gippsland Shire Council, is thrilled to have been re-elected to Council. As Mayor, Cr White was instrumental in leading the Council through the bushfires and COVID-19. He told the Bairnsdale Advertiser that he was pleased with the make-up of the new Council and looks forward to completing unfinished business from his 2016-2020...
