Bairnsdale Secondary College music students Cade Steenholdt and Ellie Bennier have been fine-tuning their skills during the lockdown period in preparation for their university auditions and final VCE recitals which take place in October.
“Our students have been disadvantaged in only being able to have remote lessons,” music coordinator, Gerry Ciavarella, said.
“Restrictions have just eased allowing both Cade and Ellie the opportunity to have just two rehearsals with accompanist Julie Lockhart. Rehearsals are usually part of the process which occur throughout the year leading up to their final recital and auditions.
“Both students have just recorded their program at the Lucknow Uniting Church ready to send off to universities with the hope of securing a place in 2021.” Cade and Ellie are seeking a career in music as teachers and performers. Music staff at the college are overwhelmed with their commitment and preparation.
“Both students have been wonderful mentors over the past six years helping our younger musicians giving up their lunchtimes to sit in on band rehearsals,” Mr Ciaverella said.
“They are also section leaders in our senior ensembles setting a high standard for other players to follow.
“I have no doubt they will be outstanding teachers and hope they return to East Gippsland in the future.
“We wish them all the best with the audition process.”
