It was a great result for several local race horse owners with former Jackson Pallot-trained gallopers Highland Blaze and Flying Basil successful last weekend.
Both gallopers are now trained by former champion jumps jockey, Shane Jackson, who took over the care of the gallopers when Pallot retired from training after 14 years in November.
The home bred Highland Blaze was successful in his third start for Jackson, winning a $60,000 3000 metre BM70 handicap at Moonee Valley on Friday night, will Tom Madden in the saddle.
It was the five-year-old gelding’s, who started at $12 with bookmakers, third win taking his stakes to $197,690.
On Saturday at Hanging Rock, the Flying Basil ($4.80) fairytale continued with Madden again taking the steer for Jackson, leading all the way to win the $30,000 2025 Hanging Rock Cup.
Flying Basil began his career as a picnic specialist, before graduating into Pallot’s first city winner at Sandown in March 2023.
The seven-year-old gelding by Magnus has now won 11 races from 43 starts and stakes of 198,090.
Both horses were impressive and are likely to continue their good form in the coming weeks if placed to advantage.
