It was a back-to-back win for Sabrina Murphy, who sailed Leading Edge to victory in the Betty Dack Trophy Race for women skippers at the Metung Yacht Club last Sunday.
Murphy was on the helm of Leading Edge, crewed by Fred Haes (owner), Will Crooke and Rick Robertson. She brought Leading
Edge first across the finish line and was awarded the trophy for the handicap win as well.
Eight yachts participated in the race at Metung, which was run as a yardstick race, with all boats in a club start at 2pm.
Two Etchells and six Keelboats entered, all with women on the helm.
Course six was chosen with two windward-leeward legs, over a distance of 0.8 nautical miles, from Chinamans Creek to Bells Point, with the wind gusting to 13 knots, axis 120 degrees.
Leading Edge was followed over the line by Come Monday, with Beagle in third place.
The results on handicap were Leading Edge (helm Murphy, crew Haes, Crooke and Robertson), followed by Come Monday (helm Wendy Bull, crew Stephen Bull, Andrew and Mavis Russell), Moontide, (helm Jacqui Sawyer, crew Tony Owens, Barry Bladen and Shelinna Ling Chen), Beagle (helm Kirsten Zadow, crew Simon Bazeley, Ed Smith and Johno Gael), Mimosa (helm Kate Shone, crew Bill Newcomen and Christopher Wannop), Maggie (helm Megan Macdonald, crew John, James and Will Macdonald), Wind Charmer (helm Jean Russell and crew Peter Bull) and New Wave II (helm Daisy Martin, crew Les Tuckey and Graeme Jamieson).
Three generations of the Dack family were present to view the race and to take part in the trophy presentation.
