The February ride for the Tambo Upper Trail Riding Club has been postponed due to significant rain impacting the area.
The ride will now be an overnight camp at Mount Taylor with the new date of March 1 and 2. The rides will be led by Sue Cullinan assisted by club members who have helped with the job of mapping and timing the rides.
The Saturday will be the longer day, riding out at 10am sharp.
Riders should bring a saddlebag lunch.
The group will return to the floats before 3pm for a night around the campfire. Sunday will be a shorter day leaving at the earlier time of 9.30am and returning for lunch by 12.30.
Riders can choose to attend both days or come along just for one of the days.
It is a great opportunity for new riders to come on the Sunday to try out trail riding to see if it suits them and their horse rather than committing to the full day on the Saturday.
The rides will be a mixture of terrain, including secluded bush tracks, 4WD tracks, shaded gullies and some hills.
There will be plenty of recovery time for horses on the route should the weather be hot.
Camping is available for both Friday and Saturday night and riders should bring their own supplies including portable horse yards, water, food etc.
To reach to the rally point travel out Bullumwaal Road through Wy Yung and Mount Taylor until the road becomes gravel.
Opposite the MTB par, turn right onto De Carlos Road and continue to where the farmland is bordered by the bush, camp in the marked area on the right.
The January ride was in the Colquhoun Forest and was led by Debbie Carstairs on her appaloosa gelding Phoenix.
Sixteen keen riders attended for the first outing for the calendar year.
Debbie took the group along a myriad of tracks weaving through the open bush. There were some short steep climbs in and out of ferny gullies and along single trails.
Two new riders were welcomed along. Jacqui Shannon from Bairnsdale and Amy Kneebone from Wuk Wuk. Both ladies enjoyed their day out and handled their horses well.
Tambo Upper Trail Rides are held in different locations on the third Sunday of every month.
Visitors are welcome and juniors are also encouraged, but must be accompanied by a guardian and able to ride independently.
