Last week saw the playing of two grand finals in the Gippsland Bowls Region eastern conference midweek pennant at the Bairnsdale Bowling Club.
Metung was successful in division two and Lakes Entrance 4 was the winner in division three.
They shared centre stage with the superleague preliminary final.
DIVISION ONE
Sale and Lakes Entrance will do battle in this week’s superleague decider at the Bairnsdale Bowling after Sale defeated Paynesville 68-57 in last week’s preliminary final.
Sale’s picked up two rink winners in clear fashion, with Bruce Melrose, Margaret Scenery, Raymond Kennedy, Dennis Young (28-15) and Gail McKenzie, Pamela Carter, Michael Dowd and Neal Taylor (28-10) all in great touch.
Glynis Bugeja, Ken Perkins, Alan Schwennesen and Peter Hardy gave Paynesville a chance at victory, with their 32-12 success but they lacked support in the second most important game of the year.
Ladder leader and defending champion Lakes Entrance was victorious four more times in the home and away season than Sale, but have pushed Lakes in both encounters this season, with two and one-shot margins, if thats an indicator it should be a tight encounter.
DIVISION TWO
The season’s dominant side Metung 65-51 defeated Lakes Entrance 2 despite winning just one of the three rinks.
The effort of Leah Cameron, Mark Peters, Clint Overton and Attila Sofran in winning 28-10 enough to get Metung home, setting up a Region final against Sale 2.
Julie Rowe, Bill Gilbert, Charles Lesiw and Samuel Berlingeri (20-18) and Dawn Irwin, Stephen Adams, Lynton Rathjen, Peter Howie (21-19) winning hard fought contests for Lakes 2 to avail.
DIVISION THREE
Lakes Entrance demolished Lakes Entrance 5 in the finale, 55-24 setting up a date with Yarram for the Region title.
Lakes 4 kept its unbeaten season intact, with Lakes 5 doing well to progress to the final after just scraping into fourth position on the ladder.
Dianne Scott, Frank Detering, Heather Todd, John Kimberley (23-14) and Ian Gray, Charlie Abela, Carol and John Hurren (32-10) were all in top form for Lakes Entrance 4 heading into this week’s decider.
