Bairnsdale RSL Sub-branch held a Wreath Laying Service at Beaufort Memorial Gardens to celebrate International Women's Day last Saturday, recognising all local women who have served and are currently serving in the Australia Defence Force. A flag party from the 313 Army Cadets was also present.

The Bairnsdale RSL Sub-branch held a Wreath Laying Service at Beaufort Memorial Gardens on Saturday, March 8, to recognise women’s services.

Sal Guthrie, A Royal Australian Navy Veteran presided.

“Today marks the 59th anniversary of International Women’s Day and it is right that we take this opportunity to acknowledge all the women who have served, and those serving at this moment in the Australian Defence Force,” she said.

“We also recognise those who have, over the decades, diligently served in the RSL network of Women’s Auxiliaries.”

Major Pat Willhelme of the Salvation Army led the prayers and the address was given by FLTLT Candice Levett, an instructor at Officer’s Training School, RAAF Base East Sale.

Wreaths were laid by Sandra Graham (RAAF Veteran) on behalf of the veteran community, FLTLT Candice Levett on behalf of the ADF and Margo Fraser on behalf of the RSL Women’s Auxiliary. The Last Post and Rouse were sounded by Alison McGoldrick.

A flag party of female cadets from 313 Army Cadet Unit, Bairnsdale was commanded by CDTSGT Grace Oldfield. The group included LT (AAC) Tania Lando, 2LT (AAC) Tara Wilson, CDT Amity Bailey, CDT Tori Williams, CDTSGT Grace Oldfield, CDTCPL Alexi Dipietro and CDT Scarlett Bailey.
