The Bengworden fire station recently officially opened their new extension annexe, a welcome addition after receiving a $80,000 Volunteer Emergency Service Equipment Program grant.
The addition of the kitchen, training and meeting room, sees the 83 year old brigade with considerable more flexibility after operating out of just a truck shed for years.
The organisation now has access to a warm or cool facility for meetings, training and to wait for call outs on volatile days.
With just 14 members, six who are active, between the ages of 22 and 80, the fire brigade is looking for new members and hope the new facility will created some interest in the community.
Bengworden Fire Brigade, captain, Keith Hayles is delighted with the new facility and what it brings to the site, which includes improved security.
“We put around 40 hours into the grant paperwork, and it’s a great reward, as well as making meetings and training much more comfortable,” Hayles said.
The site also has the potential to step in as a major incident room or hub if need be in the future.
The opening was attended by members of the neighbouring Lindenow and Meerlieu brigades.
