Local Mountain Bike ace, Hudson Tarling recently booked his ticket his ticket to UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Switzerland from August 30-September 14.

Tarling is one of 10 competitors to earn their ticket to the World Championships in the junior section.

Tarling finished 17th in a UCI Mountain Bike World Series circuit race at La Thulie in Italy over the weekend in the junior men’s division where at times he was psuhing the pace of the top five.

His efforts come directly before his own backyard becomes the centre of attention for this weekend’s Mountain Biking East Gippsland Winter Enduro at the Mount Taylor Mountain Bike Park.

East Gippsland Shire Council mayor, Cr John White said the Winter Enduro is a highlight of the mountain biking calendar, bringing riders and spectators together for an exciting weekend of competition and community.

“We’re proud to support the return of the Winter Enduro Race at Mt Taylor as part of this year’s East Gippsland Winter Festival,” Cr White said.

“Events like this not only showcase our incredible natural assets but bring visitors to our region, boost the local economy, and inspire a new generation of riders.

“Congratulations to Mountain Biking East Gippsland (MTBEG) for their tireless work – we can’t wait to see Mt Taylor come alive with energy, colour and community spirit this July.”

Saturday, July 12, will be dedicated to the thrill of gravity enduro racing.

There will be a range of categories designed to cater to riders of all ages and skill levels, from the young guns to the seasoned pros.

The format is simple and fun: enjoy pedalling up the scenic trails with your mates and then test your mettle by racing back down.

The rider with the fastest time accumulated across all stages will be crowned the winner.

To keep the good times rolling, there will be a social gathering on Saturday night, providing a great opportunity to share stories and connect with fellow mountain biking enthusiasts.

For those wanting to fully immerse themselves in the weekend, camping will be available right at the venue.

Sunday, July 13, is all about pure mountain biking fun.

Get ready for a day of laughs and friendly competition with a fancy dress competition – the more creative, the better.

There will also be a thrilling chainless race, a fun and unpredictable relay race where teamwork is key, and the ever-popular whip/off best trick competition where style and airtime reign supreme. Whether you’re participating in the events or simply coming along to spectate and soak up the atmosphere, Sunday promises to be a fantastic day out.

“The passionate MTBEG volunteers have been working tirelessly to make significant improvements and modernise the tracks at Mt Taylor in preparation for this event.

The club is thrilled to bring such a high calibre of racing to the local community,” MTBEG secretary Melissa Rowe said.

“They are particularly excited that this event will provide a fantastic opportunity for many local junior riders to experience racing right here in their backyard.

“We are incredibly grateful to the East Gippsland Shire for their generous sponsorship, as well as DEECA who have both been instrumental in making this event possible.

“Mountain biking has experienced a remarkable surge in popularity in recent years, and we anticipate that the Winter Enduro will attract not only our enthusiastic local riders but also participants from all corners of the state.

“As the event coincides with the school holidays, we encourage you to consider extending your stay in our beautiful region. East Gippsland boasts a wealth of fantastic mountain biking trails beyond Mt Taylor, such as the renowned trails in Omeo.

“We look forward to welcoming you to Mt Taylor for an unforgettable weekend of mountain biking.”
