Ladder leader Lucknow was quickly back on the winners’ list after last week’s aberration, though they had to work hard to shake a persistent Orbost Snowy Rovers at Lochiel Park during round 13 action last Saturday.
The round saw the top four sides account
for the bottom four.
The Blues were keen to put up a better
performance in the replay of last year’s grand final after going down to Lindenow in a shock the previous round, battling hard and taking the match up to Magpies who won by just
five goals.
Macy Tatnell and Magpies coach Erica Lynch led the way for the side favoured by many to win this year’s premiership, with the efforts of Jewel Caitlin, Hannah Macalister-Bills and Hayley Boxall paving the way for the improved performance by the Blues.
Second-placed Stratford made light work of Paynesville, 87-16 winners at Boyd Reserve.
Coco Henry and Maddi Telling were standouts for the Swans, while Taylor Morrell, Hayley Davies and Darcie Garth battled hard for the Gulls.
Third-placed Boisdale Briagolong defeated a competitive Lindenow at the Cattery 59-35.
The Cats are a side that has shown obvious improvement as the season has progressed, well represented by Ashleigh Foreham, Briely Wight and Ashlee Smith.
Stars for the Bombers were Paige Morris, Zara Flynn and Emily Porter.
The pressure was on right from the start in the match between Lakes Entrance and Wy Yung with both teams fighting hard for possession, Lakes causing its fair share of turnovers but the going was tough against a quality opponent who played with relentless intensity.
The Seagulls tried hard but the Tigers had all the answers, 73-28 winners, with Hannah Harrington and Lydia Overend outstanding form for the winners, Lucy Carroll and Emma Yates the award winners for a Lakes Entrance team which never gave up and fought the match right out to the finish despite the one-sided scoreline.
In this week’s games the match of the round is at Lucknow where Stratford will fancy its chances of causing an upset over the Magpies. Boisdale Briagolong will host the Orbost Snowy Rovers, the reigning premiers capable of an upset if they get it right, Paynesville will welcome Wy Yung while Lakes Entrance is at home to Lindenow, who would be expected to win on recent form.
