Despite concerns surrounding the spread of foot ands mouth disease (FMD), Bill Wyndham Livestock’s opening spring store cattle sale last Tuesday defied expectations.
“At the end of the day, with what’s been happening with FMD, we were worried where the market had recorrected itself, but we were probably $200-$300 better than what we were predicting,” agent and auctioneer, Jake Fullgrabe, said following the sale.
“We yarded 2221 cattle. The first 13 pens, 140 grown steers to average 635kg came out at $3104, that’s about $4.88 a kilo just in the first 13 pens.
“To go further the first 25 pens, 250 cattle, 593kg to average, was just shy of $3000 ($2950).
“The yearling steers, we yarded 1460, they averaged $2136.
