Maffra Football Netball Club have won two premierships on Gippsland League grand final day at the Morwell Recreation Reserve.
The Maffra fourths pulled off the upset of the day, beating the previously unbeaten, Traralgon by four points in a thrilling start to the day.
The Eagles’ Leo Stephenson was awarded the best on ground medal, Maffra gaining redemption for defeat
at the hands of the Maroons in 2024.
Maffra outclassed Leongatha in the thirds, running out 52 points winners, the Eagles line up containing a number of players who have impressed at senior level
in 2025.
One of those players, Jack McQuillen was awarded best on ground, booting six goals in tough conditions.
Leongatha won their fourth reserves grand final in succession, hanging on to beat Traralgon in a low
scoring match by just three points (24-21).
The Maroons Riley Adams receiving some compensation for the loss, the winner of the best on ground medal.
A disappointing finale in the senior decider, Leongatha charging to a 95-point victory to claim the premiership.
This triumph marks their fifth Gippsland League senior flag since 2015, continuing an incredible run of grand final appearances in every season across the past decade.
Former Essendon captain and home town hero, Dyson Heppell won both the best
on ground medal and the
Stan Medal, his efforts recognised by both umpires and the media.
