Mount Taylor will host opening round of the 2025/2026 Victorian Downhill Mountain Bike Series (VDHS) on October 4-5.
The event will see 300 riders from across Victoria and beyond, take on the challenging downhill course in a thrilling showcase of speed, skill, and endurance.
From junior riders as young as 10 to seasoned competitors in the Super Masters 50+ category, the event promises a diverse field of talent.
The spotlight will shine brightest on Sunday afternoon, when the under 19 and elite categories battle it out in what’s expected to be a gripping finale.
Local club Mountain Biking East Gippsland (MTBEG) is proud to host the event, bringing top-tier racing back to Mount Taylor.
With a growing base of junior riders, the club is eager to see its members take on the state’s best in a competition that continues to grow
in popularity.
Downhill mountain biking has seen a surge in interest, especially among younger athletes, with VDHS
events now sell out within minutes, reflecting the sport’s booming appeal.
This year marks a special milestone, 20 years of the VDHS series, celebrating
two decades of adrenaline-
fuelled racing.
Riders will spend Saturday and early Sunday morning familiarising themselves with the course before racing kicks off around 11.30am
on Sunday.
The timed race sees riders descend the infamous downhill track in a thrilling display of speed and precision.
Spectators will have plenty of opportunities to catch the action, with several accessible viewing spots along the track.
One of the most popular is the “Cabbage Patch” rock garden, offering a prime vantage point to witness the technical prowess of the riders.
Behind the scenes, around 40 volunteers each day will be working tirelessly to ensure the event runs smoothly.
Their dedication is key to the success of both MTBEG
and VDHS.
East Gippsland Shire
Council mayor, councillor John White is again delighted to welcome the riders to
the region.
“This thrilling event is a fantastic showcase of our spectacular landscapes and top-class mountain biking trails, while also giving a welcome boost to local businesses,” White said.
The excitement is building, as the event date nears, and Mount Taylor is ready.
