Meerlieu made a winning
introduction to the Bairnsdale Cricket Association women’s cricket competition, with an exciting victory at home last week
over Paynesville.
Paynesville won the toss and elected to bat, finishing on
6/77 after its 16 overs, highlighted by a brilliant 30 retired from
Katie Garth, with Lucy Simpson the pick of the bowlers for the Tussocks taking 2/5 from three well directed overs.
Beckie Stevens was superb with the willow in the run chase for Meerlieu making 30 retired, as the Tussocks finished on 5/82 in a thrilling finish.
Jasmine Brennan was the leading wicket taker for Paynesville
with 2/15.
In this week’s match, played tonight at 5.30pm at the Lucknow Recreation Reserve on the synthetic, Lucknow takes on Meerlieu, with Paynesville enjoying the bye this week.
