After more than four years of planning and hard work, the Paynesville RSL Sub-Branch is proud to announce the completion of its long-awaited redevelopment project, with the official opening to be held on Tuesday, November 11 at 11.30am, following the town’s Remembrance Day service.
The redevelopment marks a significant milestone for the Sub-Branch and the wider Paynesville community, transforming the existing facilities into a modern, accessible and welcoming space for veterans, their families, and local residents.
Paynesville RSL president Jack Peterson said the project has been a true community effort, driven by local volunteers, supporters and organisations who shared the vision of restoring and improving the Sub-Branch for future generations.
“Four and a half years ago, we started with a simple idea — to modernise and future-proof a place that means a great deal to so many,” Mr Peterson said.
“Through the generosity and effort of local volunteers, community groups, and donors, we’ve raised over $500,000 to make it happen. It’s a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together.”
The upgraded facility now features a new roof, dedicated bar, additional storage room, remodelled toilets, and a wrap-around deck overlooking the memorial gardens.
Mr Peterson said the improvements would ensure the RSL remains a central part of community life in Paynesville.
“The RSL has always been more than a building — it’s a gathering place, a place of remembrance, and a place of connection. These upgrades make sure it can continue to serve that role for many years to come,” he said.
The grand opening ceremony will include a welcome address, project overview, ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a guided walk-through of the new facility, followed by morning tea.
The Paynesville RSL extends a warm invitation to all community members, supporters, and veterans to attend this special event and celebrate the achievement together.
