Bairnsdale’s festive spirit has been dampened after Christmas decorations along Main Street were vandalised shortly after being installed.
Vice president of the Bairnsdale Chamber of Commerce, JJ Driscoll-Plavins, who helped set up the decorations, said he was devastated by the damage.
“It’s really disheartening to see the decorations ruined so soon after being put up,” Mr Driscoll-Plavins said.
“A lot of time and effort went into making Main Street look festive for the community, and it’s upsetting to have that destroyed.”
The Chamber of Commerce is now assessing the damage and determining what repairs or replacements will be needed ahead of the busy Christmas season.
Despite the setback, Mr Driscoll-Plavins said the community’s enthusiasm for the festive season remains strong. “We’ll get the decorations back up and keep Main Street looking bright for everyone to enjoy before the Bairnsdale Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 6,” he said.
