Communications were cut to Dargo over the weekend causing grief for elderly residents and patrons at the town’s hotel.
Landlines were out of action until Monday afternoon while mobile phone reception was patchy and internet access inoperable.
The Advertiser understands a problem at the Telstra exchange station on the main road into Dargo was to blame.
“Landlines had been out all last week and Telstra were trying to fix the problem but it became worse over the weekend,” a Dargo resident told the Advertiser.
Drinkers who stopped by the Dargo Hotel to quench their thirst with a cold beer as temperatures soared found they were unable to tap their card and complete eftpos transactions.
“It was a massive, massive issue because we had no eftpos,” Emily Theodore, executive manager at the hotel, said.
