After their first two Gippsland Cricket League (GCL) matches were abandoned, the Bairnsdale Cricket Association senior side finally got out on the park last week, but were comfortably beaten by Sale-Maffra.
Sent in at the Sale Oval, Bairnsdale was dismissed for just 65 in the 18th over, with Scott Dare top scoring with 15.
Bairnsdale was precariously placed at 2/39, but it fell away quickly after that.
Jack Rietschel (3/14) and Brad Scott (3/8) raced through the tail.
Sale-Maffra knocked the runs off in just 33 balls for the loss of three wickets, with Brad Scott remaining 28 not out from just 17 balls.
Connor Mitchell picked up 2/14.
Bairnsdale’s next match is on Sunday, locally against Leongatha.
In the under 18s, Bairnsdale went down to Cricket Latrobe Valley at Meerlieu.
The visitors batted first and were dismissed in the 34th over for 118, with Luis Wilson (3/15), Archie Poore (2/18) and Harper Clack (2/22) prominent with the ball.
In reply, Bairnsdale was dismissed for just 84 in the 36th over, with Mitchell Johnson top scoring with 19 and Kaden Hicks making a solid 17 not out from 59 balls.
The next match is an away game on Friday, December 19 against Sale-Maffra.
There was disappointment in the under 15 game as well, with Bairnsdale going down to Leongatha on Duckworth Lewis.
Leongatha batted first and were 4/129 at the end of 30 overs, with Fletcher Watt (2/17) and Jude Wilson (2/24) among the wickets.
In reply, Bairnsdale were 9/62 off 23 overs, when play was halted, Watt top scoring with 13, while Oakley Hughes made 12.
Bairnsdale next game is an away fixture against Sale-Maffra on Sunday, December 21.
Under 13 GCL will commence on December 14, when Cricket Latrobe valley host Bairnsdale at Yinnar.
The first round of women’s GCL will be played on January 18, with Bairnsdale playing an away game against Cricket
Latrobe Valley.
