Benambra’s own whipcracking talent, Jake Pendergast, has added a state title to his already impressive list of achievements, recently taking out the Tasmanian Junior Whipcracking Championship.
Pendergast began whipcracking just three years ago, inspired by his sister and local legend Aleisha Sievers.
Since then, the now 13-year-old has worked hard to master new skills, even teaching himself tricks on YouTube, and his results speak for themselves.
In 2023, competing in the 12 and under section, he was victorious at Mountain Cattlemen’s Association of Victoria and Omeo Show.
While in 2024, he accumulated wins at Mountain Cattlemen’s Association of Victoria and the Man
from Snowy River Bush Festival.
Graduating to the 16 and under and open divisions in 2025, the wins have kept coming with regular aplomb.
He has scored open victories at Omeo Agricultural Show and the Mountain Cattlemen’s Association
of Victoria, and has tasted success at underage level at the Man from Snowy River Bush Festival (Bullock Whip), King of the Ranges Murrurundi Stockman Challenge, Riverina Whipcracking Challenge at Deni Ute Muster, Mountain Cattlemen’s Association of Victoria and Omeo Agricultural Show.
Pendergast now has his sights set on the New South Wales Junior Whipcracking Championship early next year, before the Australian Whipcracking Championships later in 2026.
