The next generation of local artists took centre stage yesterday afternoon as the winners of the Paynesville Classic Boat Rally’s “Let’s Make Waves” colouring competition were announced.
A celebration was held at the Paynesville RSL on Thursday, November 27, where East Gippsland Shire Council mayor, Cr Jodie Ashworth presented the talented winners with certificates and prizes.
The competition invited participation from a wide range of local educational groups, including Paynesville, Eagle Point, Lindenow, St Mary’s, West Bairnsdale, and Bairnsdale Primary Schools, alongside the Paynesville Community Centre Creche and Paynesville Kindergarten.
Although not every invited school could take part, organisers were thrilled to curate a vibrant art show from the entries received, emphasising the sentiment that “children are the future” of the event and the region.
“Congratulations and well done to all the children,” a spokesperson for the event said.
Residents and visitors can now view the colourful works of art, which have been installed in local business shop fronts throughout the town.
The exhibition will remain on display through the summer, concluding at the end of the boat rally.
The colouring competition serves as a creative lead-up to the major event, with the Paynesville Classic Boat Rally scheduled to take place from February 27 to March 1, 2026.
