Stratford moved into the top four of Gippsland Bowls Region midweek pennant, with an outstanding win (73-51) in round eight action over ladder leader and reigning premier, Lakes Entrance, at the Lakes Entrance Bowling Club.
Janelle Abraham, June Richardson, Anne Renehan and Kirstie White led the way with a powerhouse performance, dominant winners 29-13, winning six of the last
seven ends when the Joanne
Martin-led Lakes outfit looked set to mount a challenge.
Lucia Dalli, Joy Nowak, Wayne Marsden and Ross Morton were also victorious for Stratford, 22-15, after winning seven of the final 10 ends.
Wallace Mason, Jack Light, Bill Rowley and Kevin Brown picked up a vital two points for Lakes, winners 23-22, despite losing four of the last five ends.
The five shots they banked on
the 15th end were pivotal in the victory, Lakes remaining on top by just three points.
Second place is occupied by Bairnsdale, who had all answers when
challenged at home by Sale, successful 59-52.
Glynis Bugeja, Jeff Watts, Geoff Aitken and Neil Watts were
again influential in the victory,
21-10 winners.
They were joined by Timothy Kennedy, Wendy Campbell,
Adam Easton and Christopher Mackintosh, who hang on for a 27-23 win, despite conceding six shots on the final three ends.
Shane Higgins, Margaret Sceney, Wally Hudson and Dennis Young got a rink back for the visitors, triumphant 19-11.
Sale remains in sixth position on
the ladder.
Maffra moved from fourth to third on ladder after winning 65-58 over Metung at home, who dropped from second to fifth.
Grant Smith, Joshua O’Brien, Keryn Awty and Craig Anderson led the way for the Bowling Eagles, convincing 29-17 victors, including a six on the 17th end when the game was there for the taking.
They were well supported by
the consistent Julie Orchard,
Jeffrey Wheaton, Brett Hodgins
and Ron Orchard, winners 20-15, despite a scare on the 20th end, conceding seven.
Winners for Metung were Maree Cross, Jeff Elliott, Ronald McDonald and Ray Crossley, who picked up 14 shots between ends 17 and 20.
The winless Lindenow had the bye.
