The Jan Pianta School of Dance (JPSD) marked a major milestone with its 35th end-of-year performance, staged on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Forge Theatre and Arts Hub in Bairnsdale.
Established in 1982, the school presented the performance under the theme Every Picture Tells a Story, a concept selected more than 12 months in advance.
The production reimagined iconic and unforgettable images through movement, with each dance piece unfolding its own narrative according to the style performed.
The performance was dedicated to the memory of respected local creatives David and Judy Hamilton, who worked closely with principal artistic directors Garry and Jan Pianta for more than 30 years.
The Hamiltons played a significant role in shaping performance themes, costumes and stage props, with their first collaboration with the school dating back to 1987.
Dancers across all age groups and styles took part in the production, with photographs from the performance capturing groups as they brought the iconic images to life on stage.
Following a busy year of rehearsals, competitions and examinations, the JPSD teaching team and dancers are now enjoying a well-earned break over the holiday season.
Throughout the year, students prepared for and competed at numerous dance eisteddfods, completed annual dance examinations, and participated in programs including the State Youth Ballet Company and Lion Heart Youth Dance Company.
Classes and opportunities spanned a wide range of styles, including classical ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop and contemporary dance.
With 2026 approaching, the Jan Pianta School of Dance is already looking ahead to another exciting year, offering a variety of dance opportunities for students of all ages and experience levels.
