Last Saturday’s Bairnsdale parkrun recorded its equal fourth-largest turnout, with 146 participants tackling the scenic five-kilometre course along the Mitchell River.
Participants took part in a mix of running, jogging and walking, enjoying
the course for both fitness and recreation.
Rhys Perkins led the field home in 19 minutes and 19 seconds, while the first woman to finish was the consistently strong Mikhaila Bromwich in 20 minutes and 55 seconds.
The event welcomed 19 first-time participants and recorded 15 personal best performances. Runners achieving personal bests were Luis Wilson (20.23), Cooper Peachey (20.44), Anthony Stewart (23.05), Ben Dulude (26.36), Trish Dulude (26.51), Jake Bromwich (27.07), Maddie Harrington (29.25), Carrie Priestly (31.52), Justine Scott (34.07), Evie Symons (38.39), Gary Creek (45.07), Dylan Creek (48.38), Beverley Duffy (49.35), Janice Preston (52.21) and Tarli Preston (52.22).
Twelve clubs were represented, including Riviera Triathlon Club, WJR Latrobe, Crosbie Crew, East Gippsland Runners, Bendigo University Athletics Club, HIIT Factory, The HIIT Factory Bairnsdale, Shepparton Tri Club, Lara Runners, Westerfoldians, Salvos Striders and the Department of Dodgy Knees.
The weekly event was made possible by the efforts of volunteers Stacey Ashley, Pauline Bommer, Robyn Kerscher, Graham Martine, Campbell Sanderson,
Grant Sanderson, Tim Shepperd, Clinton Whelan and Clare Stone.
Bairnsdale parkrun has been running since March 12, 2016, and takes place every Saturday, departing at 8am.
