Prairie balladeer Scott Cook, born in West Virginia and raised on the Canadian prairies, is bringing his heartfelt folk and country songs back to Australia, performing at the Stratford Courthouse on Wednesday, January 14.
Cook gave up a career
teaching kindergarten in Taiwan in 2007 to become a full-time troubadour.
Since then, he has toured extensively across Canada, the US, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and beyond, averaging over 100 shows and a dozen summer festivals each year. His lyrics draw on his experiences on the road, blending empathy and
keen observation.
He has already completed ten Australian tours, performing at major folk festivals including Woodford, Port Fairy, Cobargo, Candelo, Cygnet, Healesville, Mullumbimby, Newstead, Kangaroo Valley, Dorrigo, Maldon, Illawarra, the National, and Yackandandah.
Since January 2022, Cook has been performing full-time with his partner, Pamela Mae, on upright bass and
vocals, while recording his eighth album.
In 2025/26, the duo are touring Australia in their trusty HiAce, Hector, sharing their new collection of “sturdy, straight-talking songs that see the good in you.”
Opening the Stratford show will be the Mafeking Hillbillies, presenting original folky/country songs, many inspired by local stories.
